The governor, Bandaru Dattatreya, received the resignations of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his cabinet ministers. Following this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) named Nayab Saini, the state unit chief, as the leader of the legislature group. The new chief minister will be sworn in later today. This development comes amidst tensions between the BJP and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), led by Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, mainly due to the failure to agree on seat-sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state. Nayab Singh Saini, the current Member of Parliament from Kurukshetra, has been chosen as the leader of the BJP legislature group in Haryana.

Nayab Singh Saini, hailing from the OBC community, became the Haryana BJP state president in October last year. He has been associated with the BJP since 1996, starting with organizational roles and gradually progressing through various important positions within the party.

In 2016, Saini was elected to serve in the government. During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Saini emerged victorious from the Kurukshetra constituency by defeating his closest competitor from the Indian National Congress by a significant margin. Saini is recognized as a trusted associate of Manohar Lal Khattar, and his selection as the leader of the legislature group is believed to be influenced by electoral and caste factors.
