US Secretary of State John Kerry jokingly asked IIT Delhi students if they had come to campus on boats, as he stuck in a rain-related traffic jam and delayed a talk with IIT Delhi's students for nearly 2 hours.
Kerry was scheduled to address IIT Delhi's students at 9.30am, but was delayed as heavy rains lashed NCR. He arrived closer to 11 am, instead.
"Don't know how you all got here. You must have needed boats to get here," Kerry joked.
Kerry said that, “You guys deserve an award for being here today. I don’t know if you came in boats or amphibious vehicles. I salute you for being here and thank you very very much.”
According to reports, the US secretary of state got a taste of Delhi's monsoon traffic jams, when his motorcade was stuck near the Teen Murti crossing as the Shantipath-Teen Murti roundabout was waterlogged. On Monday, his motorcade took nearly an hour to reach the Taj Mahal hotel from IGI Airport due to heavy rain.
