Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to speak to the country today at 8:30 pm, according to sources. There has been no word yet on what he will discuss, leading to guesses about his topics. The timing of his speech is important since it follows the failure of the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament, which faced criticism from the opposition regarding how the government handled it.
The Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill aimed to raise the number of seats in the Lok Sabha from 543 to 816 to ensure that 33 percent of these seats are reserved for women. While 298 members supported the bill, 230 were against it. Out of the 528 votes cast, the bill needed 352 votes for it to pass with a two-thirds majority, but it did not succeed. After the first bill failed, two other bills, including one for delimitation and for more Lok Sabha seats, were not voted on since the government claimed they were closely related to the women's reservation legislation.

Earlier today, PM Modi informed his Cabinet that the opposition made a mistake by not supporting the women's quota bill and that there will be repercussions. He stated, "They have failed the women of our nation. This message needs to reach every individual, in every village," as reported by sources. Sources mentioned that the opposition plans to send a letter to PM Modi, requesting the implementation of the earlier Women's Reservation Bill. The parties in the INDIA Alliance will also conduct press conferences nationwide to express that although they are in favor of women's reservation, they believe the government is trying to change the country’s political situation under this pretense. The Prime Minister last spoke to the nation on September 21, 2025, when he informed citizens about GST 2.0 reforms. Before that, he addressed the public on May 12, 2025, about Operation Sindoor, which was India's response after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 deaths.
