The Tamil Nadu government has partnered with Google to explore AI collaborations in the state, and will also set up a new "Tamil Nadu AI Labs" facility. The state government signed an agreement with the tech company at their office in the US. Additionally, the administration has made five other deals with companies like Nokia, PayPal, and Infinix to establish centers in cities such as Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore. The Tamil Nadu government plans to work with Google, through their investment agency, to bring AI technology to startups, small businesses, and rural areas.
The partnership aims to provide mentorship and networking opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses in the region. These businesses will also be able to access Google Cloud's artificial intelligence technology through an open networks marketplace. The collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to promoting inclusive growth and technological progress through AI. The goal is to build a thriving AI ecosystem in Tamil Nadu that drives innovation, creates opportunities, and empowers individuals with the necessary digital skills. On the first day of the Chief Minister's US visit, the government signed agreements with various companies to set up facilities in the state, including a research and development centre by Nokia, an AI-ML development centre by PayPal, a semiconductor innovation centre by Microchip and Yield Engineering Systems, and a tech centre by Applied Materials and Infinix.
