Kamal Haasan, the founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), recently announced an alliance with the MK Stalin-led Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Haasan emphasized that the decision to join the DMK-led alliance was made in the best interest of the country, rather than for any personal gain. The DMK has allocated one seat to MNM for the 2025 Rajya Sabha elections, solidifying the partnership between the two parties. During the alliance agreement signing at the DMK headquarters, Haasan and DMK chief M.K. Stalin mutually agreed on MNM providing full support to the alliance and actively participating in campaigning efforts across the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and the Puducherry segment.

Haasan has shown solidarity with Udhayanidhi Stalin, defending him against the 'Sanatana Dharma' controversy, highlighting that Udhayanidhi was unfairly targeted for expressing his views on the matter. Furthermore, Haasan's involvement in events such as accompanying Congress MP Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Tamil Nadu showcases his commitment to aligning with like-minded political entities. As the Lok Sabha elections approach, negotiations between the DMK and its allies, including the Congress, are ongoing to finalize the seat-sharing agreement. The previous collaboration between the DMK and Congress in the 2019 general elections resulted in a successful outcome, securing a significant number of Lok Sabha seats for both parties. The ongoing discussions for the upcoming elections seek to replicate this success and consolidate their alliance to maximize electoral gains.
