Hijab Row: Supreme Court Declines the Plea to Transfer the Petitions

The Hijab row has hit the state of Karnataka badly and to control the situation, the government announced the closure of schools and colleges for three days. Ritu Raj Awasthi, the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court announced a full bench to look into the issue. Before this, the state cabinet met and decided to wait for the verdict. The Supreme Court which is hearing the issue declined to transfer the cases from the High Court to the top court. Bengaluru police commissioner Kamal Pant announced 144 section against any gathering or protests in the state. Several agitators are taken into custody in the past two days. The 144 section will continue till February 22nd near the schools, colleges or any educational institution.
Karnataka also witnessed a decline in the new cases of coronavirus in the recent weeks and the schools, educational institutions are shut. Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil asked the political parties not to stage any protests against the Hijab row which is an issue in Karnataka. Congress MPs Hanumantiah and Naseer Hussain raised the issue in Rajya Sabha saying that the Hijab brown clears that the Muslim girls are discriminated against. The Supreme Court told that it would consider the submission of listing the plea. Chief Justice N V Ramana revealed the high court should handle the case. 200 women students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) extended their support for the Muslim students and girls in Karnataka who were targeted. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will take a call on the reopening of the schools and colleges this evening after a meeting with the officials of the Home Departments and the state education department.
