On Tuesday, a top scientist in the UK admitted and stepped back from a key government panel for breaking the country’s rules on social distancing. Strangely, he put forward measures the Government can take during the coronavirus lockdown and failed to follow them himself.

According to the media reports, he let a woman visit him at home twice after the lockdown. Professor Neil Ferguson said, "I accept I made an error of judgement and took the wrong course of action."

"I deeply regret any undermining of the clear messages around the continued need for social distancing to control this devastating epidemic."

According to the scientist, the government spokesman had confirmed his resignation after he voluntarily backed out from his role on the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies.

Towards the end of March, citizens of Britain had received strict orders to stay at home after the number of deaths went up to 32,000 and more. After the US, they were the second COVID affected country.

The Government had taken a decision of the lockdown after Ferguson and his colleagues at Imperial College London did thorough research and strictly hinted COVID-19 infections and deaths would worsen if no strict action is taken.

Ferguson said, "I acted in the belief that I was immune, having tested positive for coronavirus, and completely isolated myself for almost two weeks after developing symptoms"

Further, he said, "The government guidance is unequivocal, and is there to protect all of us."

According to Ferguson, the Prime Minister had instructed to have a three-week lockdown on March 23rd.

Media reports said that he had only permitted people to go out for essential items or if they wanted to exercise. Police got the authority to fine people breaking rules.
