Good news for all BSNL service users. The state-run telecom service provider has launched a new service that will allow its mobile customers to access Facebook without any Internet or data connectivity. Yes, it's true!

In return, all BSNL will do is charge the users a petty fee of Rs 4, Rs 10 and Rs 20 for 3 days, weekly and monthly plans, respectively.

The public sector telecom firm has joined hands with U2opia Mobile to provide Facebook access to its users through unstructured supplementary service data or USSD. Currently, the service has been launched in East and South zones will be shortly made available in West and North zones.

USSD technology is employed by telecom operators to send alerts to their users. The technology has been used for pre-paid call-back service, location-based content services and menu-based information services.

Facebook for USSD will allow users to log into Facebook, view/post status messages, respond to  requests, write on friends’ walls, view birthday reminders and send messages sans any Internet or data connection.  The service would work for all kinds of handsets.
