A diabetic will meet many who will tell him what not to eat. But today, we tell you what to eat if you have high blood sugar. Yes, for a "glucose-intolerant" or "diabetic," it's easy to see what they shouldn't eat. Foods containing glucose like bread, rice, pasta, and potatoes are a complete no-no. Agreed, diabetes is all about eating right. But that doesn't mean you have to shun away your favorite foods from life altogether. If you are a high blood sugar patient, then this following write-up might seems heaven-sent to you. But even before you trail the food chart, here are some rules that you must steadfastly follow.

  • Eat until you're satisfied, not stuffed.
  • Don't skip meals, especially breakfast.
  • Include protein, such as meat, cheese, and nuts with every meal and snack

The Foods

Vegetables: Eat as many as four servings of non-root vegetables like asparagus, broccoli, spinach, and leafy green vegetables every day (One serving is 1 cup raw—about the size of a baseball—or 1/2 cup cooked).

Meat and eggs: Eat as much of poultry and fish as you want.

Cheese: Consume up to 4 ounces of hard and firm cheeses like Parmesan, American, and cheddar every day.

Fruit: Restrict yourself to 1 cup of berries or melon a day.

Nuts: A ounce a day.

Condiments: Horseradish, mustard, soy sauce, and Tabasco sauce.

Salad dressings: Oil and vinegar, ranch.

Oils: Olive and canola

Beverages: Drink 64 ounces of water a day. Two servings of diet soda per day and unsweetened tea and coffee as desired (decaf if possible).
