Pregnancy is always good news, but it brings with it many health problems. It is very important to monitor a woman's health during pregnancy. Although some women maintain their health, some women struggle with multiple health problems. Diabetes is one such health disease. This is called gestational diabetes. Although there can be many causes of this disease, obesity is one of the main reasons that can lead to gestational diabetes. The placenta produces hormones that prevent the body from using insulin effectively. Therefore, if the body cannot produce enough insulin during pregnancy, pregnant women may develop gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes is a very common condition among pregnant women, said Dr. Amrita Saha, gynecologist at Kannauj Government Medical College. Ignoring health problems is dangerous for both the woman and the fetus. So let's take a look at the causes of gestational diabetes.

According to doctors, obesity or being overweight during pregnancy can lead to diabetes, which can be fatal for both mother and child. However, gestational diabetes is not always caused by obesity alone. Various causes can be responsible for this disease. In the early stages it is difficult to diagnose the disease. It can be detected after 20 weeks or 5 months of pregnancy. To take preventive measures, it is very important to take the necessary tests at 24-28 weeks of pregnancy.

Reason:

Family history: According to Dr. Amrita, women who have a family history of diabetes during pregnancy are more susceptible to developing gestational diabetes.

Obesity or overweight: Studies show that women who are overweight are at a higher risk of developing gestational diabetes. Dr. Saha said women with a body mass index (BMI) above 30 are at higher risk of developing the disease.

First pregnancy history: If a woman has gestational diabetes during her first pregnancy, she is at risk of developing the disease again.

PCOD: Women who suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOD) or other hormonal problems are more likely to develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy.

According to doctors, maintaining a healthy diet is very important. This will help avoid this problem. She said it's important to eat smaller meals every two hours, not three full meals. Staying active during pregnancy is very important to stay healthy. Women can also do yoga and meditation to prevent such diseases.
