The murder of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala in 2022 brought international attention to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Now, a couple of years later, the leader of the notorious Bishnoi gang is in the public eye again, as his members claimed responsibility for the killing of veteran Mumbai political leader Baba Siddique. The 66-year-old NCP leader and former minister was shot outside his son's office in Mumbai, with the assailants claiming to be part of Bishnoi's gang. Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently incarcerated in Gujarat's Sabarmati Jail, has shown the ability to organize and carry out crimes from within the prison, highlighting the deep-rooted operations of his gang, which has a global reach spanning across continents.

The crime syndicate led by Lawrence Bishnoi has a vast influence and network, allowing their operations to continue even when Bishnoi is imprisoned. The Bishnoi gang has been increasingly involved in extortion, murder, and arms trafficking, targeting high-profile individuals such as Punjabi singers, the liquor mafia, and prominent businessmen. Bishnoi, born in 1993 in a village near Punjab, was introduced to organized crime during his time at Panjab University, where he met his future associate, Goldy Brar. Despite being incarcerated in various prisons, Bishnoi maintains control over the gang's activities through the use of mobile phones, and he is often transferred to different facilities and kept in solitary confinement.

The Pakistan-based criminal Shahzad Bhatti uses other prisoners' mobile phones equipped with advanced VPN technology to conceal the identities and locations of the people he talks to. Similarly, Lawrence Bishnoi employs messaging apps like Signal and Telegram to stay in touch with his contacts in India and outside the country. The Bishnoi gang has a widespread presence, particularly in North America. Lawrence Bishnoi frequently communicates with his brother Anmol, as well as associates Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara. The gang maintains close ties with Khalistani terrorists and separatist groups in North America. In India, the gang employs around 700 shooters. The gang reaches out to local criminal groups, who then hire and train underprivileged young boys to carry out contract killings or political assassinations on the Bishnoi gang's orders, often without their knowledge of the true nature of the operation. The Bishnoi gang is structured like a corporate entity, similar to Dawood Ibrahim's D-Company, with separate divisions handling logistics, legal affairs, and information gathering. Over time, the gang's activities and methods have become increasingly escalated.

Despite being imprisoned, Lawrence Bishnoi is believed to have maintained full control over his gang's unlawful activities. Jail authorities suspect that many incarcerated gang leaders, including Bishnoi, operate their criminal enterprises from within prison walls, using smuggled phones and loyal associates to carry out their orders outside. An example is when Bishnoi was found using a mobile phone inside Bharatpur Jail to continue orchestrating attacks and extortion attempts. One of Bishnoi's most audacious plots was the plan to assassinate Bollywood star Salman Khan in relation to the blackbuck hunting case, as the blackbuck is considered sacred by the Bishnoi community. On April 14, two men on motorcycles shot multiple rounds outside Khan's residence in Mumbai's Bandra, leading to several arrests. The charge sheet alleges that the Bishnoi gang had issued a ₹25 lakh contract to assassinate the actor, with the plan being hatched over several months from August 2023 to April 2024.

The assassination of Moose Wala was linked to the Bishnoi gang, which has collaborations with other criminal groups, including Sandeep, also known as Kala Jathedi, a well-known gangster who was detained by the Delhi Police Special Cell under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in 2021.
