Ashwamedha Yagya
The Ramayana epic, written by Saint Valmiki, is the story of lord Rama. Rama held the Ashwamedha Yagya after becoming the king of Ayodhya. The yaga involved a horse, which roamed to extend the dynasty. As Rama roamed to catch the horse, he came across sage Valmiki's ashram.
The horse of the grand yagna wandered in the jungles, currently Baripur village in Bhadohi district. It was then that the horse was captured by two young sons, Luv and Kush, of Ma Sita, after learning the tags on the horse’s forehead.
This followed a great battle, which involved all the great warriors of Lord Rama, including Laxmana, Bharata, Shatrughna, Sugreeva, Nala-Neela. All of them were defeated in the fierce battle, while even the most powerful Hanuman was tied up by them.
Finally the king of Ayodhya himself had to come to fight with the children. Thus, Rama met his two sons and his wife, Ma Sita. Rama asks her once again perform agni pariksha to return to Ayodhya with him. But Sita pleaded Bhoomi Devi, her mother, to take her in and give her solace. Mother earth opened up and taken her in.
