During an interview with TV channel Times Now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commented for the first time on the sexual assault allegations against Prajwal Revanna, a suspended JD(S) leader. He stressed the importance of zero tolerance for such behavior, and criticized the Congress party for the timing of the release of the videos. According to Modi, the responsibility for taking action lies with the state government where the incident occurred. He emphasized that stringent punishment should be given using all legal options available. Prajwal Revanna, a Lok Sabha candidate for the JD(S) and grandson of H D Deve Gowda, has been accused of sexually assaulting several women, with multiple videos of the incidents surfacing after the first phase of polling in the state.

Prajwal, a member of a political party, was arrested for kidnapping one of the victims. While his party suspended him pending his conviction, he is reportedly in Germany with a diplomatic passport. His father denies the allegations and claims they are politically motivated. The JD(S) and BJP have formed an alliance in the state for the Lok Sabha elections. The Prime Minister cited numerous videos as evidence against Revanna and claimed that the timeline extends beyond the current government in Karnataka. He criticized the lack of action taken by authorities and suggested it was a political tactic. PM Modi stressed the need to bring the accused back to India to face the charges. There is no room for forgiveness. This must come to an end within our nation. We must retrieve him and implement severe consequences. There can be no exceptions or excuses," the Prime Minister stated.
