The Telangana High Court Chief Justice bench is serious over the immersion of idols made of plaster of Paris (POP) in Hussain Sagar Lake, Hyderabad. The court has issued an order to the Hyderabad commissioner of police to prohibit the immersion of POP idols in Hussain Sagar last year. Chief Justice Alok Aradhe has asked GHMC and police to give an explanation for taking the court’s order lightly, that is to prohibit POP idol immersion.
Besides this Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is going to spend Rs 62L to remove the idols and scrap from the Hussain Sagar including lifting of idols. The shoreline is expected to clean in the next 15-20 days. Removal and transportation of idols in Peoples Plaza, Bathukamma Ghats and for PVNR Marg, HMDA will be spent Rs 30.20L and for other places, it is expected to be spend Rs 32.52L.
The process of cleaning up is going to take one week from the day of immersion. The process is already under implementation from the festival day. Every alternate day agencies are cleaning the platforms along NTR Marg, Peoples Plaza, Bathukamma Ghats and Baby Ponds.HMDA has private hired agencies for working all around.
But the Telangana High Court is serious about the immersion of POP idols. GHMC and the Police are expected to come up with an explanation to the HC of Telangana.
