Sri Lanka's Acting President Declares Emergency

Sri Lanka is struggling to bounce back from the crisis that surrounded the island nation. The people are on the roads protesting against the government. 144 section is imposed in Colombo and the recent President fled from the country. The acting President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe declared an emergency in the country after the protests made against the government. The Parliament of Sri Lanka will meet tomorrow to elect the new President. Gotabaya Rakapaksa fled from the country and he is currently in Singapore. The Singapore government asked him to leave the nation in 15 days.

Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sajith Premadasa from the opposition party Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), Dullas Alahapperuma, a senior lawmaker andMarxist JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake are the in the President's race. A shipment of fuel arrived to Sri Lanka which is a temporary relief for the nation. The tourism is completely shut for now because of the financial crisis. There is huge shortage of food, medicines, fertilizers and fuel for the 22 million people residing in Sri Lanka. The nation is trying hard to bail out and is in talks with the International Monetary Fund. There are no cars running on the streets of the country due to the crisis. All the schools and colleges are shut.
