There is a huge mismatch between the reported production numbers of the vaccinations for coronavirus in India and the vaccinated people in the country. In the case of Covaxin, the official data shows that 2.1 crore doses of Covaxin is administered in the country till yesterday. As per the statements from the Bharat Biotech, at least 6 crore doses of Covaxin should have been available in India to date which means two-thirds of the vaccines are missing. Bharat Biotech based in Hyderabad refused to comment on the same. Krishna Ella, the CMD of Bharat Biotech said that 15 million doses are produced in March, April and the production in May would be 30 million.

He also said that the company stockpiled 20 million doses of the vaccine before the drive commenced and this takes the total number of produced Covaxin doses to 7.5 crores. The total number of vaccine exports of India are said to be 6.6 crores and a majority is by Covishield. Even after export, a major amount of Covaxin doses are missing from the Indian market records. Several Indian states complained that there is a huge shortage of Covaxin doses all over. Some of the vaccination centres are shut as they could not accommodate the doses of Covaxin.
