“Bois Locker Room”: One Juvenile held by Delhi Police, others identified

The constant indecent comments and “guy talk” has become a prevalent source of entertainment among masses. Objectification of women and sheer misogyny and not to mention, the casual throwing around of terms like “rape” has grappled the teen adults of the nation.

In the recent news, Delhi Police has held a juvenile accountable for the Instagram chat group where the schoolboys shared some indecent pictures of minor girls and even raised comments insinuating gang rapes.

The Delhi Commission of Women took immediate action on Monday and issued notice to both Delhi Police and Instagram over the massive outrage over the online group named “Bois Locker Room”. The group was being used by a group of school boys sharing objectionable pictures of minor girls and discussing about gangrape.

Following the issued notice from DCW, Delhi Police took immediate action and caught one of the boys involved in the act studying in a popular school in Delhi and seized his phone as an evidence. The police have also identified some remaining 20 members in the group, all belonging to some of the elitist schools in Delhi.

The reports also clarify that some of the members of the group are above the age of 18.

The Instagram group came to light following a South-Delhi girl gaining access to the group chat and sharing the screenshots on the social media platform. The girl also shared the list of participants in the said group chat who were responsible for making some shrewd comments.

With the post gaining attention and going viral, the DCW plunged into action and took the matter in their own hands.

"I saw screenshots of 'Boys Locker Room' group on Instagram. This is a clear example of a gruesome criminal and rapist mindset," DCW Chief, Swati Maliwal said.

"We are issuing a notice to Instagram and Delhi Police. All the boys in this group should be arrested," she further added.

The notice issued by DCW asked Instagram to share various information of the administrators involved in the group along with the username or handle, email ID, IP address, location etc.

DCW has also asked the social media platform to question whether immediate and necessary actions were being taken up by the social media company in retaliation to what has happened.

They further asked to share the details concerning the same and if not actions have been taken, the council also asked for reasoning behind the same.

Not just that, a further notice was forwarded to the Delhi Police to share a detailed action taken report surrounding the matter along with the copy of an FIR. Both the respondents have been asked to submit their reports by May 08.

The Delhi Police has also registered a case against all the accused under the relevant sections of IPC and IT Act for obscenity.
