Eight Indian Tourists Die in Nepal due to Possible Gas Leak

Eight Indian tourists have died on Tuesday of suspected suffocation caused due to leakage of gas in their room at a resort in Nepal.

The police has said that eight Indian tourists including four children died after they fell unconscious as they were trying to keep warm by using a gas heater during the night in a hotel in Nepal.

The police of Makwanpur has said that the victims might have fallen unconscious due to asphyxiation, which is a state of being deprived of oxygen which might in turn lead to suffocation, unconscious or death.

The victims along with seven others were staying in Daman, a hill resort located at the south of Kathmandu which is known for its panoramic views of the Himalayas.

Hobindra Bogati has told Reuters that the Indian nationals were in a room when the lit a gas heater in order to keep warm which had probably lead to suffocation. It has also been confirmed that seven other tourists of the same group were unharmed.

The superintendent of police Sushil Singh Rathaur has said that, the victims have been airlifted to HAMS hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.

The deceased were identified as Prabin Kumar Nayar (39), Sharanya (34), Ranjit Kumar TB (39), Indu Ranjit (34), Shree Bhadra (9), Abhinab Soraya (9), Abi Nayar (7), Baishnab Ranjit (2), as reported by The Kathmandu Post.

The sources at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has said that the eight victims had been airlifted and were brought to a hospital in Kathmandu where in, a doctor has also been asked to rush immediately to the concerned hospital in order to check regarding the welfare of the patients and to look into that necessary assistance is being provided but all the eight victims have been pronounced death.

Two couples and four children who are the victims were included as a part of a group of 15 people who have been travelling from Kerala to Pokhara which is a popular mountainous tourist destination. The trip has almost come to an end when they had to stay at Everest Panorama Resort in Daman in Makawanpur, as they were on their way back home on Monday night.

The manager at the resort had said that the guests stayed in a room where they had turned on a gas heater in order to keep themselves warm. The manager had also added saying that they had booked four rooms in total but stayed in two rooms with eight of them had stayed in one room and the remaining had stayed in the other room.

It has been said that, all the windows and the doors of the room where the gas heater was turned on, were bolted from inside.

All the necessary assistance to the family members of the victims has been assured by the Indian mission and the death of the malayali tourists in Nepal has been condoled by the Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram.

Steps to quicken the procedures for the repatriation of the mortal remains of the victims have been taken by the officials with the directions of the chief minister, said his office.
