Supreme Court Directs Center and States to take action to Prevent attacks on Kashmiris

Supreme Court today issued notice to Centre and 11 states, on plea seeking direction to protect Kashmiris in the aftermath of Pulwama terror attack. 

The apex court directed chief secretaries, DGPs of 11 states, Delhi Police chief to take prompt action in cases of assault on Kashmiris and other minorities. 

The court also said that nodal officers, appointed to deal with mob lynching cases, will now deal with cases of assault on Kashmiri students post Pulwama attack.

The bench led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi heard the PIL today, on protecting Kashmiris after the Pulwama attack.

There were numerous incidents of assault and harassment of kashmiri students studying in other states are being reported after after the pulwama attack.

Several students from Kashmir have been suspended from their colleges and arrested in different states for alleged anti national activities.

Jammu and Kashmir former Chief Ministers welcomed the Supreme court direction.

Omar Abdullah welcomed the Supreme court direction, he said, “Grateful to the Hon Supreme Court of India for doing what our elected leadership in Delhi should have been doing. The union HRD minister was busy living in denial & a Governor was busy issuing threats. Thank goodness the Hon SC stepped in.”

Mehbooba Mufti said, “Relieved about the SC order to ensure Kashmiri students based outside J&K are not harassed or face social boycott Shameful that the honourable judiciary took decisive action where others conveniently turned a blind eye.”
