The Michigan state governor Rick Snyder declared a state of disaster in two countries consequent to devastating floods that ravaged Upper Peninsula this weekend.
According to National Weather Service, some areas were hit with 6 to 8 inches of rain.
The flooding and heavy downpour led to more than 60 six holes, washouts as well as left water and sewer lines exposed.
A 12-year-old boy suffered injuries early Sunday when his home caved in during flash flooding in Houghton County. The further information regarding boy's condition is still not available.
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder declared on Monday a state of disaster for Houghton and Menominee counties because of the weekend weather.
"I appreciate the dedication of our state and local emergency response teams and volunteers who have been working diligently to protect the public health and safety of our residents affected by this severe flooding," Snyder said in a statement. "This declaration will ensure additional state resources are available so that damages can be repaired as quickly as possible."
On Sunday, originally both counties declared a "local state of emergency", actuating local emergency response and recovery plans. The statement of government allows for National Guard deployment in these counties to aid with road repairs in the affected areas.
