President Barack Obama is all set to visit atomic bomb-struck Hiroshima later this month, the White House confirmed. After the historic visit, Obama will become the first US president to visit Hiroshima after the atomic bomb tragedy.
"The President will make an historic visit to Hiroshima with Prime Minister (Shinzo) Abe to highlight his continued commitment to pursuing the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons," said spokesman Josh Earnest.
According to the White House, the US President is scheduled to go to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park on May 27 on the sidelines of the G-7 summit in the city.
"Instead, he will offer a forward-looking vision focused on our shared future," White House communications director Ben Rhodes said, disclosing that Obama will "share his reflections on the significance of the site and the events that occurred there."
