The NDA government has decided to discontinue the stamps on the former Prime Ministers, Rajiv and Indira Gandhi, under the new definitive theme of postal stamps. The government has replaced the Builders of Modern India theme with Makers of India theme. The new definitive theme brings in a host of eminent personalities like Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Shivaji, Maulana Azad, Bhagat Singh, Jayaprakash Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia, Vivekananda and Maharana Pratap.

"In our government, looking at country will not be a family. Ideology may be different, but will honour everyone," communications minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

"It is a routine process. Addition and subtraction of stamps are done based on the theme," an official spokesperson said.

"The stamps of the new theme are under print and expected to be available across post offices within a month. The stock of old theme is still available and will be there untill it gets exhausted," a government official said.

Stamps on Homi J Bhabha, JRD Tata, CV Raman, Satyajit Ray also have been discontinued under the new theme.

Stamps on Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Rajendra Prasad, Srinivasa Ramanujan, Rabindranath Tagore, Subramania Bharati, Bhimsen Joshi, MS Subbulakshmi and Bismillah Khan will also be made available for regular use.
