The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said that 1.5 million people have fled their homes including around 800,000 children from Nigeria, who have been displaced by the tussle or conflict between the Islamist militant organisation Boko Haram and government forces. The situation has turned into a worsened state as per the data released by the world body. The number of children crossing over the border to Chad, Cameroon and Niger to save their lives has doubled over last year.

Among the 1.5 million people, who were reportedly displaced, 1.2 million people just displaced internally, while the rest have crossed the borders into neighbouring countries.

While the Amnesty International said that at least 2,000 women and girls were kidnapped since the beginning of last year, and they have been forced to work as cooks, slaves, sex partners, and for other abusive activities.

The mass abduction of 219 Nigerian schoolgirls from Chibok, in the northeastern state of Borno, on April 14 last year brought unprecedented world attention to the brutality of the insurgency.
