Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Ambitious project Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY) has made Guinness World Records for opening the highest number of bank accounts in less time.

According to Financial Services Secretary, 11.5 crore new accounts have been opened under  Jan Dhan Yojna till date.

The scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 28, 2014, under this banks were given targets January 26, 2015 to open 10 crore accounts. But the banks have reached the targets before deadline given by the govt.

99.74% of the people have covered under Jan Dhan Yojna scheme the Finance Secretary said.

According to reports 11.43 crore accunts were opened as of January 16 and out of which 8.24 crore accounts had zero balance.

The public sector also have played a major role too they alone opened 9.06 crore accounts,followed by Reginal Rural banks opened about 2 crore accounts. 13 private sector banks together open just 36 lakh accounts.

Finance minister Arun Jaitley told while talking to reporters on Tuesday, "Most of India today is included in the banking system, The Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August, was recognised for opening the most bank accounts—about 1.80 crore - in one week as part of the financial inclusion campaign”.
