YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy has made it clear that his party was not averse to forming alliance with any political party in the interest of Seemandhra. However, Reddy made it clear that he would have no business with the Congress, his former party.
Even the BJP-led-NDA was viewed favourably if it would benefit Coastal Andhra.
General elections 2014 will be YSR Congress party's first Lok Sabha elections. Reddy, 41, did not rule out supporting the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government if it would be beneficial to Seemandhra following bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Reddy hopes to sweep the polls in Seemandhra after Telangana is carved out of Andhra Pradesh. An NDTV opinion poll conducted recently predicted 10 seats for YSR Congress out of the 25 seats in Seemandhra.
However, his prospects will be hit by the partnership forged between Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the BJP. The NDTV opinion poll shows the TDP-BJP combine grabbing 14 seats in Seemandhra.
Jagan Reddy is the son of former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh YSR Reddy. In 2009, YSR had secured a thumping victory for the Congress in both the Lok Sabha elections as well as the Assembly polls.
YSR Reddy died in a helicopter crash in September 2009. The Congress did not install Jagan Reddy as chief minister following YSR's death. So Jagan Reddy rebelled against the Congress and launched his own party YSR Congress.
