Cases of tiger poaching in India is the highest in 2013 in the last seven years, according to the Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI) records. On Monday, the figure for this year touched 39 against last year's 31 with the seizure of additional two tiger skins from Uttarakhand's Corbett Tiger Reserve area. Records show total number of tiger deaths to be 76 compared to last year's figure of 89, however conservationists are upset on the increase in number of tiger poaching cases.
The highest figure of poaching recorded earlier was 46 in 2005, said Tito Joseph, programme coordinator of WPSI. And in 2006, the number of cased came down to 37, meaning that 2013 has the highest number in the past seven years, Tito added.
