Users who confirm their phone numbers receive the regular 15GB of free storage. There is still the option for users to not link a phone number, but this choice reportedly limits their available storage to 5GB. However, many users are critical of this decision, claiming it allows the company to gather more of their data. Some believe that this shift will assist the tech giant in cutting down on spam.

As of now, Gmail's official support webpages still indicate that new accounts get 15GB of free storage. Those needing more space can subscribe to the Google One plan. "We're trying out a new storage system for new accounts made in specific regions that will help us keep providing quality storage services to our users, while also encouraging them to enhance their account security and data recovery," a representative for the company stated to Android Authority. The Google One Lite plan offering 30GB is available for Rs. 59 a month in India. The plans for Google One that provide 100GB (Basic) and 2TB (Premium) storage limits cost Rs. 130 and Rs. 650 monthly, respectively.
