Sunil Chhetri, captain of the Indian football team was named AIFF Player of the Year for 2013 on Friday. All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Praful Patel made the announcement during the annual general meeting held in Delhi at the Football House.

Most of the I-League coaches voted for Chhetri, who is from Delhi. The award includes a trophy and a cheque of Rs 2 lakh. Having scored 43 goals, currently Chhetri is the highest scorer for India in international matches. Earlier in 2007 and 2011 Chhetri had won the award. The player is at par with IM Vijayan, who also won the award three times.

The 2013 AIFF Women's Player of the Year was awarded to Oinam Bembem Devi and Jeje Lalpekhlua was declared the 2013 Emerging Player of the Year.
