Kiwis team started the world cup extravaganza with a fantastic victory on Sri Lanka with a huge margin of 98 runs. The strong beginning from Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill with 111 runs for the first wicket, roped the team to score 331 runs for just 6 wicket loss. While Williamson and Anderson contributed 57 and 75 respectively in the mammoth score.
Jaavan Mandis and Suranga Lakmal of Sri Lanka bowled well and took 2 wickets each, while Kulasekara failed in cracking wickets as well as in economy rate.
Though Sri Lanka openers started well in reply to challenging target of 332 runs, with 65 from Lahiru Thirimanne, 24 from Tilakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara added 39 runs. Skipper Angelo Mathews tried to sustain the match with 46 runs.
