Hooked to the nail spa and can't do without your weekly manicures? Beware Ladies!
Researchers have found that frequenting the nail salon can leave with with more than just a fresh mani, especially if you use those light dryers. Exposing your talons to the dryers could increased your risk of developing skin cancer, warns researchers.
While those light dryers vary in their emission of UVA light (the type of rays that cause skin damage) , from "barely" to "significant," it's the sustained exposure that you need to be careful of.

"The researchers estimated that for most of the lamps tested," just "eight to 14 visits over 24 to 42 months would reach the threshold for DNA damage to the skin," reports The New York Times. And as anyone hooked to manicure known, it's often a weekly thing. That way, you would be using the light dryer eight times in just eight weeks.
Anyone wanting to averts the risk during their gel mani sessions could request the manicurist to apply thick coat of sunscreen instead of lotion during hand massage. Alternately, you can "wear UV-protective gloves with the fingertips cut off so only the nails are exposed to the light." Sounds good enough? Remember that an ounce of prevention could save you two ounces of cure.
