The recent deadly earthquakes in Nepal and Japan have alarmed the countries that are located on the seismic zone or earthquake prone areas. On Friday, a strong 6.0-magnitude earthquake has shakened the Borneo island of Malaysia, as per the statements of US geologists.
The quake originated at a place 19 kilometers from the town of Ranau and 54 kilometers from Kota Kinabalu in the district of Sabah, the quake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers.
However, no reports of damage have been available so far. Malaysia gets earthquakes with lower intensity as it does fall in the Ring of Fire. According to the media reports, no tsunami warnings have been issued.
The neighbouring nations of Malaysia like Indonesia and the Philippines receives frequent quakes and tremors because of the seismic activity in the basin.
