The United States has begun the process for its new rules that would mandate companies who seek H-1B visas for its workers to register first online before applying for the work permit, a move that potentially could delay the visa process for companies from India.

The Department of Homeland Security(DHS) has sought public comments to the online H-1B petition registration process that would replace the earlier process of filing initial application.

Last December, United States Citizenship and Immigration (USCIS) announced its plans for a free online registration process for H-1B visas before the April window for applications. The dates for this online process would be announced at least 30 days before.

DHS and USCIS on Thursday invited comments from the general public and other Federal agencies to comment on this proposed revision of a currently approved collection of information or a new collection of information in accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) of 1995.
