A 55-second ad that was aired on national TV has lead to an online uproar. The Kmart commercial at the centre of controversy shows a group of men, who are in boxer shorts, shaking their body to a popular Christmas carol. Joe Boxer is exclusively sold at Kmart and Sears, both the company is owned by Sears Holdings. According to reports, the ad is a new campaign for Joe Boxer.
The ad has been titled "Show Your Joe" and begins with a shot of six men, seen standing behind a curtain. They are wearing tuxedos, but soon when the curtain is removed they are shown to be wearing Joe Boxer underwear. All is well till now. Soon they squat and start dancing to the song "Jingle Bells". Most people have called it gross. The interpretted is that the action of the men is swinging their testicles in the shorts and creating the bell sounds.
Netizens have expressed varied opinion on Kmart's Facebook page. Some have termed it as pure disgusting. While others have criticized the commercial writing team. But not everyone is negative about the commercial. One person's post said the commercial had a good humour, while another termed it as "Genius."
Kmart, well known for controversial ads, said that it was sorry if some people were offended. It was not the intension of the commercial, said a spokesperson for Kmart.
