Johnny Depp's much-awaited sci-fi epic 'Transcendence' seems to be losing the race to holdovers "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Rio 2" this Easter weekend, marking another bomber for 'The Longe Ranger' star.
The film has received scathing reviews and dismal C+ CinemaScore and is likely to have trouble crossing $15 million over the weekend. Despite the initial hype and the enormous success of its teasers, the film failed to rake in any good response.
"Transcendence is a most curious name for a movie that never shakes free from those hoary old cliches about the evils of technology and the danger by which man plays at becoming a god. The man in question here is Johnny Depp, whose listless lead performance as a brilliant scientist in the field of artificial intelligence does little to aid this overplotted, dramatically undernourished debut feature," writes Scott Fernandes of Variety.
