Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Reliance Industries Chairman and CEO Mukesh Ambani held talks on Thursday. The fireside chat was held as part of the Nvidia AI Summit India event and focused on the company's artificial intelligence (AI) strategy in India. During the conversation, Huang announced that Reliance and Nvidia will work together to build and develop artificial intelligence infrastructure in India. The discussion also highlighted India's large number of computer engineers and how they can be an important resource for leadership in the global AI competition. After Huang's keynote, in which he shared the company's technology stack and highlighted its work in India and its future AI roadmap, Nvidia CEO invited Ambani to a fireside chat.
By linking Nvidia with Vidya, which means Hindi-literate, Ambani said Reliance is working to develop the best large-scale language model (LLM) in Hindi. Ambani called the first principle of Indian conglomerates "the movement of knowledge revolution and its transformation into an information revolution" and emphasized that India has reached the threshold of the information age. Huang then asked how companies like Nvidia and Reliance can transform India from an IT hub to an AI hub of the world.
This is a new and ambitious India. “We are one of the few countries in the world whose average age is below 35 years,” Ambani said in response to a question: “India has become home to various companies.” He added that Reliance is committed to driving innovation in communications infrastructure, including deployment of 4G, 5G and broadband networks. "Although our company did not originally operate in this area, we have now become the largest data provider in the world," he added. Huang agreed, saying that the size of the Indian market is a big advantage for companies operating in India. Huang discussed the next steps in building an AI-centric nation and announced a partnership between Nvidia and Reliance Industries to develop AI infrastructure in India. Describing his past conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Huang said, “Prime Minister Modi told me in my last meeting that India should not export data to import intelligence. India cannot export flour to import bread." The Nvidia CEO also said that the prime minister had asked him to advise his cabinet on artificial intelligence technologies. Ambani took time to praise Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg for the company's work in artificial intelligence. elaborating, he said that the open source artificial intelligence models released by the company have enabled Indian companies to lay a solid foundation and quickly catch up with the rest of the world. In addition, Huang emphasized that India's population and large IT industry are its main strengths. The Nvidia CEO emphasized that these are exceptional times and India has all the necessary ingredients for an intelligence revolution.
