Yesteryear actor, Shashi Kapoor will be honored with the highly prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award. The award is India’s highest award in cinema and is given to the person for their ‘outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema’.

Actor who just celebrated his 77th birthday is the star of several bollywood films as well as Hollywood movies produced by Merchant Ivory. He gave many blockbuster films, ‘Deewar’ and ‘Namak Halaal’ to name a few. He had also directed movie like ‘Ajooba’ and has acted as producer for movies such as ‘36 Chowringhee Lane’ and ‘Utsav’.

The thrice national award winner has been conferred with Padma Bhusan in 2011.

Shashi Kapoor is the son of Prithiviraj Kapoor and is younger brother of actors Raj and Shammi Kapoor. He was married to actress Jennifer Kendal, with who he co-starred in films like ‘Bombay Talkies’ and Junoon, until her death in 1984. They have three children - Kunal, Karan and Sanjana Kapoor.
