The Padma Shri is a prestigious award for those who contribute as Unsung heroes to the society. Long gone are the days when a common man would dream of winning this prestigious award. Nowadays, there are so many people who do better for the society and earn the Padma Shri award, also known as the People’s Padma.
The 105 year old Pappammal from Tamil Nadu was awarded the award this year for her incredible and long contribution to organic farming. Other agricultural activists who have won Padma Shri awards include Chutni Devi who fought against social evils in rural areas, Shanti Devi, a social activist from Odish and Mithila artist Dulari Devi.
As years go by, there have been more number of political leaders who have been honored with the prestigious award. The Prime Minister, Modi himself said that anyone who contributes to a great cause must be given this honour. He also stated that despite their status, they should receive the honor if they deserve it.
The Padma Shri is a ray of hope for the country which shows that there still are people who do good for the world in their own ways.
