At least 21 people, including a three-month-old baby girl, lost their lives in a sad traffic crash on the Mirjaguda-Khanapur road close to Chevella on the morning of Monday, November 3, 2025. The accident took place around 7:10 a.m. on the highway between Vikarabad and Hyderabad when a truck reportedly hit an RTC bus while trying to pass a motorcycle. A district bus from TGSRTC, with more than 50 passengers, left the Tandur bus station in Vikarabad heading to Hyderabad at 5 a.m. on that same Monday. The concrete-carrying tipper truck started its trip from Shabad towards Tandur after 5 a.m. on Monday. At 7:10 a.m. on the NH 163 highway (Hyderabad - Bijapur), the tipper truck tried to avoid a pothole located about 20 steps from where the accident happened by steering right, which caused a head-on collision with the bus coming from the opposite side.

The Telangana Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, Sangeeta Satyanarayana, mentioned that all post-mortems for those who died have been finished at the Chevella Community Health Centre. All the bodies have been returned to their families. The Telangana Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, Sangeeta Satyanarayana, mentioned that all post-mortems for those who died have been finished at the Chevella Community Health Centre. All the bodies have been returned to their families.

Regarding the injured, she reported that 14 individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at different hospitals. “One person might be moved to NIMS in Hyderabad for more care. About 10 are being treated in Vikarabad and are stable, while three at Chevella CHC are also stable with minor injuries,” she said. The Roads & Buildings Department will find dangerous areas on the roads. The safety of buses will remain a priority. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar emphasized that citizen cooperation is essential for safety on the roads. Telangana IT and Industries Minister Sridhar Babu said there was no negligence by the State government concerning the road improvements in the area. “It is unfair to judge without knowing the details,” he stated. Some individuals had filed complaints with the National Green Tribunal (NGT), causing the road expansion plans to be delayed for several months. “They are aware of this but are now unfairly blaming the government,” he noted.

“It has unfortunately become routine for the opposition to make every issue political. Even after such a tragic accident, trying to turn it into a political argument is neither right nor ethical. I leave the judgement to the wisdom of the public,” Mr. Sridhar Babu commented without mentioning anyone specifically. The NGT had recently made a positive ruling. “We have now started the road expansion, and we promise to finish it within 18 months and ensure the road is open for the public,” he added.
