Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a significant message to Bangladesh, reminding the country not to forget the substantial contribution of the Border Security Force (BSF) during its establishment in the 1971 Liberation War. He highlighted India’s long-standing support for Bangladesh and stressed the crucial role the BSF played during this pivotal time. Speaking at the 22nd BSF Investiture Ceremony and the Rustamji Memorial Lecture, Amit Shah stated, “Bangladesh ought to remember the significant role the BSF had in its formation.” He expressed admiration for the Indian Armed Forces, particularly regarding Operation Sindoor, remarking, “Our response to Pakistan had previously been insufficient. Although the Police, Army, and BSF did commendable work, we lacked an adequate reply. Since the formation of the BJP government in 2014, when our soldiers were attacked in Uri, we executed a surgical strike. Afterward, the Pulwama attack prompted us to conduct an air strike. Recently, in Pahalgam, innocent tourists were targeted based on their religion. Operation Sindoor was a response to this act, which has received global recognition. I commend the Army for their efforts."

He also noted, “When it was determined that a single force would provide security along a border, the BSF was assigned the challenging task of guarding both the Bangladesh and Pakistan borders, and your skills have ensured that it is done remarkably well.” Amit Shah praised the BSF as a prime example of how dedication to the nation can conquer challenges, affirming its reputation as a world-class force. He honored the sacrifice of over 2,000 border guards who have lost their lives since the BSF was established in 1965. Founded by K. F. Rustamji, the BSF today stands as the world’s largest border guarding force, comprising approximately 275,000 personnel, tasked with protecting India’s vital borders with Pakistan on the west and Bangladesh on the east.
