Supreme Court responds on Bulldozer Action

The Supreme Court has stated that a person's house cannot be demolished, even if they have been convicted. The court plans to establish nationwide guidelines to address concerns regarding the demolition of houses and buildings. The judges emphasized that a person cannot be punished by demolishing their home simply because they are accused of a crime, and that this would still apply even if the person is convicted. The court discussed cases where houses were demolished immediately after riots, as well as a case where a person's house was demolished because their tenant's son was accused of a crime. The judges stressed that this approach is unacceptable and that people should not be able to take advantage of loopholes in the system.

The government claimed that houses are being demolished only when there are violations of the law. However, the court noted that based on the complaints, there appears to be a breach. The judge said that although this is the legal position, it is often not followed. The court also recognized the need for guidelines on demolishing unauthorized buildings to be applied across the state. The court proposed to establish guidelines on a national level to address the concerns regarding the use of bulldozers to demolish properties associated with individuals involved in criminal activities, a practice known as "bulldozer justice" that has been highly controversial.
