Road accidents will destroy a whole family in a fraction of a second. Many suffer from financial losses and few even die because of financial hurdles. The central government has come up with an initiative for road accident victims. Now, injured people will soon go for cashless treatment. This is a scheme to help the road accident victims and already as a pilot project, the Central government has started it in Assam and Chandigarh. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in Rajya Sabha has announced this project. The accident victims will now be treated free irrespective of the road that take place. The program is in collaboration with the National Health Authority (NHA). This project was announced in 2024 march, which aims to save thousands of people in road accidents. In 2022, India saw 4.61 lakh accidents, in which 1.68 lakh deaths were registered and another 4.43 Lakh people injured. India is top among the nations with the highest death rate. Under this scheme, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jan Arogya Yojana, victims will be available for Rs 1.5 lakh and 7 days from the date of accident. The cashless treatment will be provided by the Motor Vehicle Fund under section 164B of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The NHA will use a digital platform to get a detailed report of the accident and also to apply the scheme. It is the responsibility of health agencies, hospitals, local police, and the General Insurance Council to look after the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
