Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, was sworn in yesterday along with 71 ministers, forming the new coalition government. The oath was administered by President Droupadi Murmu to the incoming ministers. The cabinet includes 30 Cabinet Ministers, 5 Ministers of State with Independent charge, and 36 Ministers of State. Amit Shah retains the Ministry of Home Affairs, while Rajnath Singh continues to lead the Defence Ministry in Modi's third term. Nitin Gadkari also maintains his role as the Minister of Road Transport and Highways. Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra have been appointed as Ministers of State in the ministry. HD Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal (Secular), the first leader from the BJP's National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies, took the oath. Soon after, Janata Dal (United) leader Lalan Singh, a close associate of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, also took the oath. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister who engineered the BJP's resounding victory in last year's Assembly election but was not reinstated in that position, has now been appointed as the Union Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister, replacing the BJP's senior tribal leader Arjun Munda.

The Narendra Modi government is facing ongoing tensions with farmers since the 2020 protests over the three farm laws. This discontent among farmers has been seen as a factor in the BJP's poor performance in states like Uttar Pradesh, where it secured only 29 seats in the recent election, a significant drop from 62 in 2019 and 71 in 2014. Similar losses were observed in states like Punjab and Haryana, where farmers also staged protests. In a notable change, the Telugu Desam Party's MP Ram Mohan Naidu has been appointed as the new Civil Aviation Minister, replacing the Bharatiya Janata Party's Jyotiraditya Scindia, who has now been given charge of the Telecom Ministry. Naidu, who also serves as his party's National General Secretary, successfully contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from the Srikakulam constituency, marking his third consecutive victory in the seat. His party, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister-designate N Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party, played a crucial role in ensuring the BJP's return to power after the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The ministries have now been allocated to the 71 ministers who joined the Modi 3.0 administration during the grand swearing-in ceremony held on Sunday.

The Prime Minister's new Cabinet takes shape, with familiar faces retaining key roles. Nirmala Sitharaman will once again oversee the nation's finances, while S Jaishankar maintains his position as the head of the Foreign Ministry. This continuity in leadership aims to provide stability and build upon the successes of the previous term. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet will retain four familiar faces during his historic third term. Amit Shah retains the home ministry, Rajnath Singh the defense ministry, Jaishankar the foreign ministry and Nirmala Sitharaman the finance ministry. The Prime Minister heads the Ministry of Personnel, Civil Grievances and Pensions, the Ministry of Atomic Energy and the Ministry of Space. Road Transport and Highways will be headed by Nitin Gadkari under whom will be two juniors - Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra. Piyush Goyal retained the business portfolio. Manohar Lal Khattar will head two key ministries: Power, Housing and Urban Affairs. It is supported by junior minister Shripad Naik on the one hand and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Thogan Sahu on the other. Here is the complete list of Cabinet Ministers:
