Jama Masjid Bans Entry of Women Who Come Without Men

The Mosque Management Committee of Jama Masjid has banned the entry of a woman or group of women who enter into the mosque complex without men. In order to have an access to Jama Masjid, the woman or women should have the support of men. They should be accompanied by a male member of the family. The notices are kept at the entrance gate of Jama Masjid couple of days ago. The decision has been creating ripples and the Management of Jama Masjid has been facing the heat. Swati Maliwal, the Chairperson for the Delhi Commission for Women said that the notices will be issued for the Mosque Management Committee of Jama Masjid about the issue. She said that no one has the right to ban women entering into the premises.

Sabiullah Khan, the Publi Relations Officer for Jama Masjid defended the move and said that the ban is to prvent women shooting the videos for social media as they are disturbing people who are busy with namaaz. Jama Masjid Committee said that there are no restrictions on married couple or on families. "Women's entry not banned. When women come alone-improper acts done, videos shot,ban is to stop this. No restrictions on families/married couples.Making it a meeting point inapt for religious places:Sabiullah Khan,Jama Masjid PRO on entry of women coming alone banned" told the official statement of the news agency ANI.
