More than 100 people lost their lives in the tragedy of Morbid Bridge that took place yesterday. The old suspension bridge was built on the river of Machchhu in the Morbi city of Gujarat. The bridge was reopened four days ago for the public after extensive repairs are done. The renovation too was completed. The bridge was rushed with people more than the limit and it went crashing down at 6:30 PM as per the reports from the officials. Gujarat Minister Brijesh Merja revealed that more than 145 people got killed. The most tragic thing is twelve members from the family of BJ MP got killed. Mohanbhai Kalyani Kundariya represents the parliamentary constituency of Rajkot and twelve members from his family lost their lives.
All the deceased were from the family of his sister which also included five children. The death toll as of today's morning climbed to 145. Rajkot Range Inspector General of Police Ashok Yadav confirmed the death toll. As per the eyewitnesses, more than 400 people were present on the bridge when the incident took place. A criminal complaint against the contractor and manager are filed by the cops after the incident took place. A probe was initiated soon. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the tragedy and he spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. He said that the Centre will spare no efforts for the rescue and relief operations in the Morbid Bridge tragedy. He addressed the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas today and he made these statements during the event. "My heart is with those who passed away due to the tragedy. I am left in pain which is rare" told Modi. He paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhai Patel in Kevadia marking his birth anniversary.
