New Delhi, the capital of India has been named as one of the most polluted cities in the world. The Air Quality Index (AQI) continued to remain poor and it was reported as 387 as per the report from the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR). The national capital was surrounded by a massive fog today morning and people stayed indoors. As per the reports from SAFAR, the concentration of PM 2.5 and PM 10 are called very poor. Noida's air quality remained critical at the AQI of 525. It remained critical for the second consecutive day. The AQI of Gurugram is said to be 344 and stands in very poor category.

The AQI of NCR is similar to New Delhi. "The AQI today indicates ‘very poor’ air quality due to low mixing (ventilation) throughout the day. Moderate wind speed and low boundary layer height (typical of winter) is going to keep AQI in ‘very poor’ for the next 2 days. An improvement is expected due to western disturbance from December 24 onwards" told the statement of SAFAR. Air Quality Index (AQI) is measured to communicate to the people about the pollution present in the air or how polluted it is. AQI between 0-50 is good, 51-100 is said to be satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is called, 301-400 is very poor and 401-500 is severe.
