The price of LPG cylinders in the country is expected to have a rise again in the month of November and the new price will be implemented before Diwali. The price rise is due to the oil companies going through losses as they are selling the cylinder at a price that is low than the purchase price. Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil and Hindustan Petroleum are in plans to increase the price of LPG and they are waiting for the approval of the Indian government. Sources informed that the difference between the cost of gas cylinder and the retail selling price has widened by Rs 100 and there is a need to increase the price per LPG cylinder. The government is yet to sanction any subsidy to compensate for the losses that are borne by the oil companies.

This would be the fifth time, the price of cooking gas will increase in the recent months. There are talks that the price will be increased by Rs 90 soon and it would be implemented before Diwali. The government gives 12 cylinders per year for any Indian family. For now, the price of LPG cylinder in Delhi is Rs 899.50 and it is Rs 926 in Kolkata. The government eliminated the subsidies on LPG last year after they introduced retail prices at par with the cost as per the periodic hikes in the LPG prices.
