Mumbai Rains: Landslides Kill More Than 33

More than 33 people got killed in multiple incidents in the Mumbai suburbs due to the heavy downpour and the landslides. Several houses collapsed and the rescue operations are currently on. The rescue workers are working hard in these extreme conditions to remove the debris and they staged a hunt for survivors. There are several danger zones spotted and the officials forced the people to move out from the regions as there are further rains predicted in the coming days in the city. The injured are rushed to the nearby hospitals. Several regions of Mumbai have been hit by the floods because of the huge downpour in the last 24 hours. The weather updates say that Mumbai will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next four days.

Nawab Malik, a cabinet minister of Maharashtra tweeted saying "We'll take the decision to shift the people who are living in a dangerous situation to permanent settlements immediately". There are several old buildings in the city and they may collapse because of the heavy rainfall. 11 incidents of houses and wall collapsing took place in Mumbai in the last 24 hours. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences for the deceased and he announced financial aid for the victims. The total death toll in the city mounted to 33 in the city. Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray asked the officials to be on alert and keep a close watch on the landslide prone regions. A review meeting was conducted on Sunday for the same.

Due to heavy waterlogging in some of the regions, the officials of the BMC disconnect the power supply to avoid unexpected incidents. A 21-year-old man was electrocuted in Kandivali East on Sunday when he was trying to move his belongings out from his house to move to a safer place due to the heavy downpour.
