More than 100 injured after a gallery stand collapses in Suryapet

More than 100 people got injured on Monday evening after a gallery stand collapsed in Telangana's Suryapet. The incident took place in a national-level Kabaddi championship event minutes before the inauguration. As per the update, 20 people are severely injured and their health condition is said to be critical. Telangana Kabaddi Association and Kabaddi Association of Suryapet district organized the 47th junior national Kabaddi event and there were more than 5000 spectators present for the event. The event is planned in a grand manner in the Suryapet district Police Grounds. Telangana state energy minister G Jagadish Reddy is invited for the inauguration.

State sports minister V Srinivas Goud was also present at the venue. All the injured were rushed to Suryapet Government Hospital and some of them are rushed to Hyderabad. Telangana minister G Jagadeeshwar Reddy met the injured in the Suryapet Government Hospital. Three different galleries are constructed with wooden planks with the support of iron bars at a height of 20 feet and the width is said to be 240 feet. Each stand can support 1500 spectators but with a heavy rush, the galleries were full and overloaded. One of the galleries collapsed and more than a hundred people got injured.

1500 participants from 29 states are taking part in the Kabaddi event and is organized in Telangana for the first time. Synthetic kabaddi mats are bought to conduct the matches under floodlights for four days.
