The Indian government decided to introduce the policy to scrap old vehicles across the country. Nitin Gadkari, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways today introduced the 'Vehicle Scrapping Policy' in Lok Sabha to phase out unfit and polluting vehicles in the country. Nitin Gadkari said that this would bring transformational changes in the sector of automobiles as it would reduce the emission of pollutants. The policy also improves the fuel efficiency of the vehicles and promotes vehicular safety along with road safety. Nitin Gadkari said that this policy makes the raw materials available at a low price and increases the GST for the state and central governments.
"With the implementation of the policy, 3.7 crore jobs will be created in the country. Incentives will be provided through this scheme for the owners of the old vehicles. Specially registered scrapping centres will be arranged after producing the scrapping certificates for the old vehicles. India will emerge as a global leader in the sector of the automobile industry in the next five years and India will produce 100 percent lithium-ion batteries starting from next year. I request all the Members of Parliament to setup the pollution centres and driving centres for vehicles in their constituencies. All the private vehicles will be deregistered after 20 years if found unfit" told Gadkari.
"The commercial vehicles will be deregistered after 15 years if they are found unfit from the date of registration. The bunch of rules and the details about the fitness tests, scrapping centres will be finalized and announced on October 1st this year. A new deadline is fixed by the Indian government" told Nitin Gadkari.
