Farmer’s entered day 14 of their protest on Wednesday. It would take a while more to arrive at a solution to this problem. The Government and farm unions don’t seem to put an end to this.

The outskirts of Delhi is being blocked by farmers as they sit there and continue to protest.

On Wednesday, their sixth round of discussion is expected to take place.

Although, Amit Shah and the farmer leaders had a discussion over this on Tuesday night, they were unsuccessful with coming to a solution.

Here’s what you need to know about the farmers’ protest so far :

The meeting took place at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s (ICAR) guesthouse in Pusa. Totally, 13 farm union leaders attended the meeting with Shah.

So far, there have been 5 rounds of talks. Before this, they met on December 1, 3 and 5th to discuss on the same. In this meeting, the leaders requested for a complete rollback.

Shah mentioned that the Union agriculture minister, Narendra Singh Tomar would come up with a “concrete proposal” in Wednesday’s talks.

On Tuesday, against three farm laws, a nationwide Bharat Bandh was declared. This bandh was supported by all opposition parties and it went peaceful.

What was strange was that protesters blocked highways and railway tracks.

Delhi police had house arrested Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday. AAP workers, including deputy CM Manish Sisodia sat on a ‘dharna’ outside Kejriwal’s residence and then they got permission to go inside.

Congress’ Rahul Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, CPI’s D Raja and TKS Elangovan of the DMK to meet Kovind today.

At 5pm today, opposition leaders are expected to have a telephonic conversation with Ram Nath Kovind and have a discussion on the ongoing problem and request him to revoke the laws.

Since September, farmers from Punjab have been protesting against “black laws”. They started by sitting on railway tracks in Punjab and later announced ‘Dilli Chalo’ march for November 26.

While the farmers were on their way to Delhi, they found the Haryana Police quite rigid.

The protest is ongoing at several borders in Delhi and some are happening at the Nirankari grounds in Burari. The Delhi police had specially allocated this site to them.

Farmers are keen on not settling for less and all they are asking for is a complete rollback.

They are confident about managing with ration for months and in case their demands are refused, they have threatened to block all highways leading to Delhi.
